Moments of Wander: Discover Nature Through Textiles
In a time when our connection to nature feels increasingly distant, renowned textile designer and partner at MüllerVanTol, Christiane Müller, is bringing the serenity and beauty of the natural world indoors. Partnering with HBF Textiles, Müller has crafted the “Moments of Wander” collection - three patterns that capture fleeting moments during her travels, to create indoor outdoor textiles that are tough but still retain indoor woven qualities.
Debuting in September 2024, this collection is a tribute to the wonders of nature, capturing its essence through three distinct fabrics: “Fields of Velvet,” “Trails of Tweed,” and “Seeds of Colour.” Each textile invites us to explore the macro- and microcosms of the outdoors, offering a tactile connection to nature within our interior spaces.
“The starting point for ‘Moments of Wander’ was my long-standing fascination with the myriad structures and colors I encounter in nature," Müller shares. "I find inspiration everywhere – walking along the seashore; hiking through canyons, in forests, and on volcanic islands like Lanzarote; wandering through city streets and seeing nature and concrete collide."
“Moments of Wander” is Müller’s fourth collection with HBF Textiles, building upon 16-years of collaboration with the brand. This collection follows three award-winning collection previously recognized at NeoCon.

A woven indoor/outdoor velvet with a loop and cut pile, Fields of Velvet features five colorways that capture the essence of outdoor experiences, like lying on the ground while looking up at the trees or walking through soft moss on the forest floor.
The rich and diverse multicolored fabric is the result of a collaboration between Müller and the weaving mill, a standout for its intricate double-loom weave, complex colorwork, and rare outdoor durability. A sense of randomness, rather than repetitive patterning, reveals new details each time you look - just like in nature.
The earth’s surface is made up of a myriad of colors and materials, something Trails of Tweed aims to capture through its diversity. “It recalls my wanderings through the volcanic mountains of Lanzarote, the deserts of Maroc and Mali, and the canyons of the national parks in America, discovering different shades of oxidized stones, rocks, and pebbles,” Müller shares.
A structured, matte fabric shows off the multidimensionality of earth, while the irregular thickness gives the textile a crafted, handloom feel. The one-of-a-kind multicolored yarns demonstrate Müllers innate sensitivity to color, creating new stories that run the gamut from high contrast to tonal for a result that’s as surprising as nature itself!
The pattern’s 13 colorways and irregular micro-check may seem uncomplicated, but Seeds of Colour weave the entire “Moments of Wander” collection together while also beautifully standing on its own. Borrowing from nature’s palette – flowers, grasses, trees, and herbs – the design uses various shades, represented by thread colors carefully chosen by Müller in its warp and weft, allowing for the creation of new, never-before-seen tones.
Sunflower, Jasmine, Dahlia, and Primrose (Seeds of Colour names) are inspired by flower-filled meadows and gardens designed by landscape and garden architect Piet Oudolf, a very inspirational figure of Müller.
“’Moments of Wander’ is all about my admiration for the diverse beauty of the world around us," Müller explains. "The collection of three fabrics is like taking a stroll through nature, zooming in and out to see the scenery through different lenses. It brings the essence of the outdoors to fabrics that are tough enough to take on the elements, yet feel right at home indoors."
