Central to Mary Jo Miller's latest Memorable Collection is a “love letter” to the design community she values deeply:

I was not a weaver in college. I was a printmaker with a passion for colored ink and all forms of textural embossing. So, when Chris Plasman, then president of HBF/HBF Textiles, approached me to lead the HBF Textiles program I balked at his offer and then he quickly added, “You can do this!” He brought me to a charming southern town in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. There, I found a two-year-old baby company: HBF Textiles. Since adopting into this adventure, I’ve gleefully enjoyed helping this endeavor blossom and grow into a confident collection of artistically driven materials.

As I look at the stable of talent that readily, passionately designed collections with us, I am blown away by the talent and faith that they extended to us. Why would so many take the plunge, you ask? Because we are committed to represent, in the purest form, the intent of the artist. If you dilute the message, you remove the soul. I think I understand this better than most, having been a maker most of my life.

Did we stumble over the years, absolutely, but we’ve learned along the way and will continue to learn and grow with our sales allies, our mill partners, and our design friends that have followed our journey and still love us for who we are.

Humbly and with big hugs, Mary Jo

Miller found this note when pouring over boxes of photographs and mementos which conjured up many fond memories of her years at HBF Textiles. The note sums up in a few words her gratitude for all the kind people she’s had the opportunity to collaborate with over the years. It is with deep appreciation that Mary Jo Miller announces the decision to retire, in tandem with the launch of Memorable.

With the last few collections that Miller created for HBF Textiles featuring various personal journeys with Landscape Blur - a depiction of an adventure in Norway, Lawn Chair - a retro design dedicated to her mother, and the award-winning and biodegradable Crumpled Paper - which speaks to her fondness for the dimension of paper - it seemed fitting one of her last collections with HBF Textiles be named Memorable, continuing this theme of nostalgia.

Above all, Memorable isn't just about the textiles; it's about the story they tell. The tribute to Miller’s journey with HBF Textiles is stitched into every thread - a love letter to the artistic integrity, collaboration, and passion that has defined her career.
