Memorable: A Celebration of Stories by Mary Jo Miller
Mary Jo Miller, VP of Design and Creative Direction for HBF Textiles, has served as brand ambassador and champion of female design empowerment for 30+ years. Her latest collection, Memorable, is an evocative finale that transcends mere fabric, weaving a tapestry of reunion, connection, and introspection – recurring themes throughout Miller's recent design trilogy.
From the ethereal motif of Daydreamer to the soft sophistication of Hefty Herringbone, the collection culminates in the luxurious leather line Glovely, featuring exclusive colorways. Building upon decades of award-winning work, Memorable showcases Miller's diverse inspirations and keen design eye, solidifying her legacy as an industry icon.
"It's been incredibly rewarding to see HBF Textiles flourish from a young company into a hub of creative energy," shared Mary Jo Miller. "Our dedication to staying true to the artist's vision has brought together a wonderful community of talented people who share our passion for beautiful materials."
Memorable isn't just about the fabrics; it's about the story they tell. Miller’s journey with HBF Textiles is stitched into every thread. Her belief in artistic integrity shines through in her commitment to showcasing the "purest intent of the artist." Memorable is a love letter to collaboration, a testament to the "tribe of friends" she's cultivated throughout her career.
With the last few collections that Mary Jo’s created for HBF Textiles featuring various personal journeys with Landscape Blur - a depiction of an adventure in Norway, Lawn Chair - a retro design dedicated to her mother, and Crumpled Paper - which speaks to her fondness for the dimension of paper - it seemed fitting one of her last collections with HBF Textiles be named Memorable, continuing this theme of nostalgia.
More than a collection, Memorable is a tribute. It's a heartfelt thank you to an industry icon, a celebration of a life dedicated to textiles, and a promise that Miller’s legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
An organic pattern inspired by the power of imagination, Daydreamer highlights our tendency to find familiar shapes in random stimuli when we let our minds wander. How we interpret weather radar maps, peeling bark, tree canopies, and cherry blossoms, reveals the fascinating ability to go beyond the literal and engage in imaginative elaboration. This capacity for spontaneous image formation serves as a significant source of inspiration for this pattern.
Available in 9 colorways, Daydreamer is an amazing solution for sustainability; as a material that is 100% recycled post-consumer and post-industrial plastic of which over 50% is recovered from captured ocean plastics, branded as Seaqual.
Mary Jo’s love of texture is realized in Hefty Herringbone - the tactile vocabulary embodied by this pattern resonates deeply with one’s aesthetic sensibilities. The interplay of light and shadow within the interwoven chenille strands evokes a sense of intrigue. When upholstered on furniture, this quality achieves a remarkable equilibrium - exuding a relaxed, well-worn character, yet demonstrably maintains its functional integrity.
Available in 9 colors, Hefty Herringbone passed Wyzenbeek abrasion tests of 100,000 double rubs with no wear.
The "Glovely" leather aptly lives up to its name. Its surface exhibits a luxurious, matte finish reminiscent of a well-made glove. This uber supple quality translates into exceptional tailoring capabilities, ideal for contoured forms of swivel-tilt executive chairs. Available in 15 hues ranging from a light steel grey to a classic warm camel with 4 fresh new tones exclusive to HBF Textiles.
In early 2021, the tannery launched an industry leading ‘Zero Waste Leather’ concept with zero process waste and no landfill. This process enabled a circular economy which generates many benefits including facilitating local farmers with highly efficient fertilizers produced from their by-products. The tannery’s biological wastewater treatment plant is optimized to manage wastewater from their tanning process, enabling wastewater purification at an industry benchmark level.
With a total of 33 skus, memorable features sustainable attributes from rapidly renewable fibers to yarns sourced from recovered plastics from the ocean (Seaqual) to a leather from one of the most recognized sustainable tanneries in the world. Applications range from upholstery to unadhered acoustical wrapped panel applications.
With Memorable, Miller introduces a collection as unforgettable as she is. A woman who has left her mark on the lives of all at HBF and HBF Textiles, Miller finishes on a high note, leaving behind a legacy of great memories, innovation, and a deep support for artists and creatives.
